Substantial Medical Negligence Settlement for retention of swab post-surgery
Posted in News on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023
Aisling Maher, assisted by Margaret O’Shea of the Medical Negligence team at Cantillons achieved a substantial settlement for a gentleman who became acutely unwell after it was discovered that a swab had left been behind in his abdomen post-operatively for 4 months, which had eroded into his small bowel, necessitating open surgery to remove same, and a small bowel resection. Our client was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD, and an incisional hernia arising from the negligent events.
The settlement was achieved well in advance of the hearing date and will allow our client to access ongoing medical therapy on a private basis to aid in his recovery and afford him a better quality of life.

* In contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement. Many Personal Injury Solicitors portray themselves as “no win no fee Solicitors Cork”. This term can be misleading and it is essential that you discuss fees with the Personal Injury Solicitor you ultimately choose. At Cantillons Solicitors, we are entirely transparent.
