Garda Member settles his Claim for Injury to Arm

Liam Dunford and Ernest Cantillon at Cantillons Solicitors acted for a Member of An Garda Síochána who sustained an injury to his right arm. Our client was in the course of exiting from a Garda cell having placed a violent prisoner in the cell when the door of the cell was slammed into his right arm. He suffered a crush type injury.

The case was against his employer, An Garda Síochána, for failing to provide the appropriate training to him and his colleagues on how to exit a cell safely having placed a violent prisoner inside.

The employer, An Garda Síochána denied the liability however after we sought Discovery regarding training provided it was clear that our client had not received any training in terms of safely exiting an Garda cell. We entered into discussions with the Solicitors for the An Garda Síochána and we successfully settled the case without our client having to go the Court.
