GARDA COMPENSATION ACT – REMOTE HEARING

Ernest Cantillon and Liam Dunford at Cantillons Solicitors recently successfully represented a member of An Garda Síochána in the High Court who suffered serious personal injuries as a result of a violent assault on her whilst on duty. The case was heard remotely, with the Client attending at our offices and was able to watch on line her case being presented by her Counsel to the Judge (remotely). The Client had already sworn a very comprehensive Affidavit which had set out fully the details of her assault, the injuries sustained to her (supported by medical reports) and details of her out of pocket expenses.

After reading the comprehensive Affidavit and listening to Counsel the Court awarded our client significant compensation, plus all of her out of pocket expenses, plus costs.

This was a first for Cantillons Solicitors in having a case heard remotely in the High Court Garda Compensation List and the Client was very pleased with the outcome, as it did not involve her in having to travel to Dublin to attend Court and have to give evidence.
