What Happens After A Car Accident That’s Not Your Fault in Ireland?
Posted in [Blog Personal Injury Litigation ] on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022
Car and road traffic accidents, unfortunately, occur daily in Ireland. Thankfully, the number of fatal accidents does appear to have reduced. However, there are many people who are still injured every year on the road.
Car and road traffic accidents happen when a collision occurs involving a vehicle such as a car, bus, motorbike or bicycle. In some cases, a pedestrian may also be involved if they are knocked down by a vehicle. If you are involved in a car accident that is not your fault, you may be able to make a compensation claim.
What Happens Immediately After A Car Accident?
There are three things which should happen immediately after a car accident in Ireland.
Firstly, an ambulance should be called for anyone who is injured.
Secondly, the Gardai should be called to manage the scene, record evidence, and take statements. The Gardai will not always be able to attend the scene of an accident. In those circumstances, you should, following the accident, and after receiving the necessary medical treatment, visit a Gardai station. The Gardai will record your report of the incident.
Thirdly, you must informer your insurer of the accident.
Making Car Accident Claims Ireland
If you are injured in a car accident, you may be entitled to make a personal injuries claim. If you are not injured but your property is damaged, you may also have a valid claim. To make a claim for injuries or property after a car accident, the first step is to contact your Solicitor for advice. Your Solicitor will advise if your claim is valid and the options for proceeding.

* In contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement. Many Personal Injury Solicitors portray themselves as “no win no fee Solicitors Cork” or “no win no fee Solicitors Dublin”. This term can be misleading and it is essential that you discuss fees with the Medical Negligence Solicitor you ultimately choose. At Cantillons Solicitors, we are entirely transparent
