Significant Award for a Lady who suffered a bleed following a coronary angiogram
Posted in News on Thursday, January 4th, 2018
The Medical Negligence Team including Karen Bohane and Orla Kelly acted on behalf of a lady who suffered a retroperitoneal bleed following a standard coronary angiogram procedure. It was intended that this lady would be discharged the day after this routine diagnostic procedure. However in the hours following the procedure this lady developed worrying signs and symptoms of a bleed. However despite showing these clear, worrying signs of deterioration, there was a delay in initiating treatment and in particular a delay in transferring her to theatre. Eventually when the seriousness of the situation was recognised she had deteriorated to such an extent that she required a significant blood transfusion, lifesaving surgery and a prolonged hospital stay. This lady has been left with permanent nerve damage to her leg and has been unable to return to the job she loved.
The firm were delighted to be able to negotiate on the first day of trial a significant award for this lady thus avoiding the need to continue with the trial.
Whilst she will never be able to return to her employment and her injuries will be permanent, hopefully the settlement achieved will hopefully provide her with some comfort.
