Cantillons successful in claim for lady who suffered progression of a tumour following an incorrectly read MRI scan
Posted in News on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018
The Medical Negligence Team including Lyndy Cantillon and Orla Kelly acted on behalf of a lady who attended for an MRI following development of suspicious symptoms. The MRI was mistakenly reported as normal and the lady continued to suffer and deteriorate. A year later a repeat MRI confirmed that the lady had a tumour. Following re-examination it was confirmed that the tumour had been visible and should have been detected on the earlier MRI. At this stage she had suffered significant permanent damage to her cranial nerves and a number of permanent physical symptoms were present at that stage. She required extensive surgery and radiation therapy. She continues to undergo monitoring of her tumour and a number of ongoing therapies including speech therapy. Whilst the psychological effects will hopefully alleviate with time, the physical injuries will remain. The lady is unable to return to work because of these significant injuries which would have been avoided if the MRI scan had been read correctly and treatment commenced at the earlier stage.
Lyndy and Orla were delighted to represent this lovely lady and her family and to achieve a substantial settlement shortly before trial, thereby avoiding the need to go to Court.
