Substantial Award Achieved for Woman who Suffered Severe Septic Shock as a Result of Complications following Surgery for Crohn’s Disease

The Medical Negligence Team at Cantillons settled a case for a young woman who underwent arthroscopic surgery for Crohn’s Disease. As a consequence of this surgery, she suffered an anastomotic leak. Leaks are a recognised complication of this type of surgery. Unfortunately, there was a delay on the part of her treating medical practitioner to diagnose the leak and even when it was diagnosed, it was negligently treated.
As a consequence of the doctor’s negligence, our client suffered severe septic shock, required further multiple surgeries, gynaecological difficulties, a hernia, extensive scarring and psychological difficulties.
It is not an easy task to take on the might of the MPS, but our client is an amazingly brave, resilient lady who wanted answers and vindication. The litigation was lengthy and protracted, but Cantillons were with our client every step of the way and for which she has expressed her extreme gratitude.
In addition to achieving a substantial settlement for our client, we also managed to achieve a letter of apology from the treating doctor, which meant the world to our client. She finally felt vindicated.
