SIGNIFICANT AWARD FOR MINOR WHO WAS INJURED AS A RESULT OF HORSE PLAY IN THE SCHOOL CLASSROOM

Posted in News on Friday, July 27th, 2018

Amy and the Litigation Team were successful in representing a teenager who suffered serious injuries as a result of an accident which occurred at his school. The minor Plaintiff was present in the classroom during lunchtime when another pupil who was engaging in horse play, threw a pen which struck the Plaintiff in his eye as a result of which he suffered a significant injury to his cornea. The Plaintiff underwent a number of surgeries as a result of this injury.

The Plaintiff was 13 years of age at the time of the incident and was a very talented footballer and soccer player, but was unable to engage in these activities for a period of time following the incident, due to the injuries sustained.

It was argued on behalf of the Plaintiff that due to the injury, which affected the sight in his eye, he was now precluded from entering certain vocations which had stringent vision requirements.

Proceedings were instituted against the school on behalf of the Plaintiff and liability was subsequently admitted.

The case was listed for hearing before the High Court in Cork and settled moments before the trial was due to begin.   A significant offer was made by the Defendants which was accepted.

Cantillons were delighted to represent this young man who achieved a significant award for the injuries sustained without the need to go to Court.
