Settlement for Child who Suffered Injury at School
Posted in News on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021
Amy Connolly, and the Litigation Team of Cantillons Solicitors, recently successfully represented a child in relation to a personal injuries claim arising out of an accident which occurred in August 2019, when our client was participating in a physical education class at his secondary school.
Our client was running and put his right hand out to stop and unfortunately, struck a pane of glass which was previously broken and not repaired. He suffered a serious injury to the palm of his right hand, which required surgical repair and has left our client with permanent scarring to the palm of his right hand.
An application was lodged with the Injuries Board, through the child’s next friend, and an assessment was issued which was accepted.
As our client is a minor, the assessment was ruled before Mr. Justice Cross in the High Court on the 15th July 2021.
Mr. Justice Cross approved the award, which is to be lodged in court for the benefit of our client until he reaches the age of 18.
A successful outcome was achieved for our client, without the need for our client to issue Court proceedings. See link below to Irish Examiner coverage of the case.

* In contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement. Many Personal Injury Solicitors portray themselves as “no win no fee Solicitors Cork”. This term can be misleading and it is essential that you discuss fees with the Personal Injury Solicitor you ultimately choose. At Cantillons Solicitors, we are entirely transparent.
