Legal Eagles raise over €8,600 for Cork Charity

Posted in News on Saturday, June 22nd, 2013

The team of thirteen from Cantillons Solicitors, who ran in the recent Cork City Marathon recently presented their chosen charity, L’Arche Cork, with a cheque for €8,686.

In total €4,343 was raised through direct donations from friends, associates and colleagues. This amount was significantly added to with a donation by Managing Partner, Ernest Cantillon, who promised to double the amount collected by the various teams from the firm participating in the marathon.

Ernest stated: ‘It’s not often that someone can say they are happy to write a cheque for over €4,000, but I can genuinely say it was a pleasure. The enthusiasm, dedication to the training and the great team spirit that was so plain to see through the preparations for the marathon and on the day of the marathon deserved our full support and encouragement.

‘I work with an amazing team of professionals and it’s great to see them so enthusiastic about coming together on this initiative and helping a really worthy Cork charity at the same time.’

Sinead Carroll, Solicitor, who was one of the organisers of the teams from Cantillons Solicitors, stated: ‘When we announced that 13 of us were going to run in the marathon, we were inundated with support and encouragement from friends, colleagues in the firm and associates in the profession from all over Ireland. We were able to set up an on-line donation method through mycharity.ie so it was so easy for people to support us. In just under a week we had collected over €4,000 and are grateful to everyone for their support, especially Ernest, who generously matched the amount we raised without hesitation.’

Declan Counihan, Community Director, L’Arche, who received the cheque on behalf of the charity stated: ‘This donation means so much to us and the €8,686 collected will go towards creating a new kitchen/cooking project in our day service. I would like to thank everyone from Cantillons Solicitors for giving of their time and resources to raise vital funds and awareness for our work.

‘It is through their efforts and others in the community that we are able to continue to provide our services, assisting people with and without intellectual disabilities to share life together in the community.’
