Garda receives compensation

Liam Dunford and Ernest Cantillon at Cantillons Solicitors recently successfully represented a member of An Garda Síochána in the High Court who brought a claim under the Garda Compensation Acts arising from an a severe back injury she suffered when trying to restrain a prisoner. Unfortunately, recovery was not along predicted lines and she continued to have ongoing back pain and medical expenses. The case was heard remotely, with the client attending at our offices and was able to watch on line her case before the Judge (remotely). The client had already sworn a very comprehensive Affidavit which had set out fully the details of the incident, the injuries sustained to her (supported by medical reports) and details of her out-of-pocket expenses.
After reading the comprehensive Affidavit and submissions made, the Court awarded our client significant compensation in line with her injuries plus all of her substantial out-of-pocket expenses, plus costs. Our client was very happy with the result as she avoided the stress of having to attend Court more particularly in these current times.
Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic the High Court Garda Compensation List is been heard remotely and we at Cantillons Solicitors are actively engaging in this new procedure to ensure that cases are moved along and listed for hearing when ready.

In contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement. Many Personal Injury Solicitors portray themselves as “no win no fee Solicitors Cork”. This term can be misleading and it is essential that you discuss fees with the Personal Injury Solicitor you ultimately choose. At Cantillons Solicitors, we are entirely transparent.
