Failings in medical care at Cork University Hospital lead to the untimely death of a 75 year old Cork man

Orla Kelly assisted by Angela O’Donovan acted on behalf of Geraldine regarding the death of her beloved father in December 2017.
A settlement was reached at Mediation and an expression of regret given by the HSE. The matter was ruled by the Court approving the settlement. Coffey J extended his sympathies to all involved. Outside Court Geraldine gave the following heartfelt statement:
“It has been a very hard 5 year battle but finally justice has been served to Dad. There are no words to express how much of an amazing, caring, kind, honest gentleman he was. He had an infectious passion for life, he lived it to the full, chasing the northern lights, travelling, walking his dogs, golfing and gardening. He donated his body to medical science, his final selfless act. Even after he closed his eyes for the last time, he became a silent teacher to our future doctors. He is missed beyond belief. In my opinion, this letter of regret and settlement, confirms HSE liability albeit in their typical cowardly, shameless, unemphatic fashion. It will never bring Dad back but I truly hope the lessons learned from the mistakes made will prevent others from suffering the way Dad did. I am so grateful to my solicitor Orla Kelly of Cantillons for being Dad’s voice when he could no longer speak.”
