COMPENSATION FOR PRISON OFFICER WHO SUFFERED INJURIES AS A RESULT OF AN ASSAULT AT WORK

The Litigation Department at Cantillons Solicitors recently represented a Prison Officer who suffered a very serious assault during the course of his employment.
Cantillons Solicitors submitted a claim on behalf of the Client to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. The claim was supported by various medical reports and details of our Client’s out of pocket expenses.
A Decision (Award) was ultimately given by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal by a Single Member of the Tribunal and, having considered same with the Client, it was decided to file an Appeal against that Decision as the compensation suggested was not sufficient.
The Appeal hearing was due to be heard before a three Member Committee at the Criminal Injuries Tribunal but, unfortunately, the hearing could not proceed due to the current Covid – 19 restrictions which are in place.
However, Cantillons Solicitors proposed, and successfully instigated, a remote hearing of that Appeal involving all parties.
The remote hearing worked very well and the Client will now get a Decision quicker than he would have, had the Appeal hearing been postponed.
