Compensation for Garda Assaulted while Off Duty

Posted in News on Tuesday, December 16th, 2025

Amy Connolly, Rebekah Jefferson and the Litigation Team at Cantillons Solicitors recently successfully obtained significant compensation for a Garda client who suffered injuries when she was assaulted while off duty.

In summary, our client was violently assaulted while socialising (off duty) with a friend. The offenders caused serious injuries to our client upon the discovery that our Client was a member of An Garda Siochana.

Cantillons Solicitors brought a Garda Siochana Compensation Claim on behalf of our Client. This involved lodging a Form 2A application with the Garda Siochana Compensation Section. Malice was admitted and the matter then proceeded through the Personal Injuries Resolution Board) (formally the Injuries Board) and was ultimately released.  Thereafter, our Client issued a Circuit Court Personal Injuries proceedings.

Detailed reports were obtained from our Client’s GP, Physiotherapist and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in support of the serious nature of the injuries sustained during the assault.

An Assessment Defence was delivered and the matter ultimately settled for significant compensation on the day of the trial, without our Client having to give evidence.

* Please note that in contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement.  Many Personal Injury Solicitors portray themselves as ‘no win no fee Garda Compensation Claim Solicitors Cork’ or ‘no win no fee Garda Compensation Claim Solicitors Dublin’. This term can be misleading, and it is essential that you discuss fees with the Personal Injury Solicitor you ultimately choose. At Cantillons Solicitors, we are entirely transparent with our claim case fees.
