Cantillons Solicitors were honoured with a Special Merit Award at the Irish Law Awards on the 2nd May 2014 for their role in ground-breaking legal cases.
Ken Murphy, Director General of the Law Society of Ireland spoke at the awards and heralded Ernest Cantillon as a “Hero” of the legal profession and highlighted some of the Firm’s ground breaking legal cases such as Best v Wellcome, the Sinnott case and most recently the Louise O’Keeffe case in Europe. He also spoke of the Firm’s success in Medical Negligence cases.
Ken Murphy quoted from Ernest Cantillon’s forthcoming interview in The Law Society Gazette (May 2014) “The importance of being Ernest” that the key to success is researching the legal position yourself and not to rely on other people’s interpretation of same:
“.. [I was] taught from an early stage that the answer to whatever your question was was in books of some sort or another, and to go away and look them up – which, unfortunately, is a trait that a lot of people fail to develop, seeming to prefer to rely on others. You learn from looking it up, and you remember it for all time.”
