We are honoured and delighted to have received the award of Munster Law Firm of the Year at the AIB Irish Law Awards 2016 on the 6th of May 2016.
Trish Hughes, Office Manager and Karen Kearney, Partner, had a wonderful night at the Awards and were delighted to have been guests at the table of AIB Cork.
A special thanks to Eoin Gunn, Senior Relationship Manager, AIB Cork Business Centre who looked after them so well on the night.
These awards identify, honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Lawyers and Law Firms and are designed to recognise excellence in the legal profession of Ireland.
Each year that we have been nominated, we have received an award.
In 2012, the Medical Negligence team received the award of Litigation Team of the Year.
In 2014, we were selected by the judging panel of the Irish Law Awards to receive the Special Merit Award. This award recognises that the Firm has made a significant and noteworthy contribution to the law. Ken Murphy, Director General of the Law Society of Ireland, spoke at the Awards and heralded Ernest Cantillon, our Managing Partner, as a “hero” of the legal profession.
In 2015, we won the Litigation Case of the Year in recognition of the Firm’s achievement in the case of Gill Russell v The HSE, a medical negligence case, securing record damages for a young boy injured at birth. In a landmark Judgement, the Court changed the law as to how damages were assessed which had the effect of producing an award for damages of €13 million. The Judgement set a precedent for other similar cases.
Mr Cantillon has welcomed this new award.
“It is such a privilege to be recognised by one’s peers by virtue of these awards. We are deeply appreciative.”
This new award comes on the coat tails of our recent ranking by Chambers Europe 2016. Chambers identify the best law firms globally so to be endorsed and honoured both home and abroad in the past month is a source of great pride to us.
