NexGen Knee Implant Recall

Manufacturers Zimmer Biomet have recalled their NexGen knee implant due to early loosening and a significantly higher failure rate, with patients experiencing pain, instability, and needing corrective surgery. It is alleged that the faults and high failure rate associated with the NexGen knee implant was known to the manufacturers for years, however, the implant was only first recalled in 2022, at least 5 years after it was first highlighted with the manufactures.  This has resulted in mass litigation in the UK where the product was commonly used by Orthopaedic Surgeons as their implant of choice.   It is our understanding that the NexGen knee implant was also widely used in Ireland.
